Who would have ever thought you could successfully combine Hip Hop and Country “Ho-Down” style music? Not only did it work, the production and beats from Timbaland were mind blowingly amazing and Bubba Sparxxx flowed right over each track like smooth butter over hot toast. It might be the most ambitious hip hop album EVER, and it reached its goal. More impressive was his second album Second Rounds on me which was so sick it could be argued to be a classic IMO.Īnother artist/album IMO was Bubba Sparxxx Deliverance. Despite that the rest of the album was pretty good. One listen to the intro "Average Man" on his debut album will tell you that they SIGNIFICANTLY undersold him lyrically. Then they released "The Set up" and "Don't come down" as the 2nd and 3rd singles, which despite being more toward his style were still not his best lyrically. It was as if since he was with Eminem they wanted him to release a track and try to sound like Eminem. It was NOTHING like his style and was all silly with a HORRIBLE beat. I couldn't believe when I heard that single "Got some Teeth" he released for his debut album Cheers. This was obvious when he absolutely KILLED it on the track “Go To Sleep” featuring a prime Eminem and Prime DMX where Obie Trice not only held his own, dropped such an ill verse you could easily argue he had the best verse on the song. Obie Trice was MUCH better than the way he was marketed. However there are a few others not talked about as much. His legendary mix tapes like Mood Muzik 1-3, Halfway House & Escape Route are practically classics IMO. The first most obvious to me is Joe Budden who dispite a hit single on Def Jam, never got a 2nd single pushed and was put out as this club song dude despite his more serious tracks like Walk with me, Calm Down, and 10min.
I'm talking about great albums or artist that flopped despite releasing a great album. Now I'm NOT talking about albums or artist that sold a bunch and went platnium and stuff. There are a lot of horribly overlooked/marketed albums and artist out there, but I just wanted to know what this board thought.
